Criteria and Procedures for Advancement in Levels

Criteria

The Coaching Staff devised a "points format" in 2002/2003 based on five events for each swimmer. These criteria will be used for athletes to move between levels. These events are:

100 m free
100 m back
100 m breast
100 m fly (50 m for 12 and under swimmers)
200 IM

This structure (based on the number of members) may have to be adjusted at the discretion of the coach.

Level Criteria
4 12 years of age and younger with more than 600 points (total seconds)
3 12 years of age and younger must have less than 600 points (total seconds)13 years of age and older must have more than 590 points (total seconds)
2 11 & 12 year olds must have less than 500 points (total seconds)13 & over swimmers must have less than 590 points (total seconds)All athletes must be 11 years of age and older
1 Under 500 points (total seconds)All athletes must be 13 or 14 years of age and older

Procedure for Competitive Levels

A change in level will be initiated once the age/points criteria have been satisfied. Typically the change in level will be initiated by the coach. A form has been designed (see Appendix 1) to ensure all those involved (coaches, parents,) are aware of such changes at the same time. A swimmer will NOT be moved until all concerned have been notified and the parents have authorized the change, as it will likely entail changes in practice times, fees and fundraising commitments (see By-Laws; see Responsibilities of Parents). Coach will provide each child with these times.

Procedure for Pre-Competitive Levels

A change in level from Pre-Competitive to Competitive will be at the recommendation of the coach. The same procedures apply as with competitive levels.
