Levels of swimming within SSMAC
Outlined below is a description of the team Levels. Swimmers are enrolled in a club Level, by the coach, according to their skill level, age and goals. Swimmers will begin the season in the level designated by the coaching staff. For a swimmer to move up or down, a discussion must occur between the swimmer, coach and parents.
Level 1: Level 1 swimmers are dedicated and committed to excellence in swimming and are expected to participate in a rigorous training program. These swimmers are very experienced and successful swimmers with provincial and national goals.
Level 2: This level comprises highly advanced and dedicated athletes who have mastered all four strokes. Swimmers are encouraged to compete at regional and provincial meets and to strive for provincial times.
Level 3: Level 3 swimmers will be working on perfecting their stroke technique while beginning to build some endurance. Emphasis is on developing all 4 strokes. Swimmers are encouraged to compete at a regional level and to strive for "A" times.
Level 4: At this level, the emphasis is on the development of strokes, and starts and turns, while building the swimmer's confidence in a competitive environment. Swimmers are encouraged to compete in Northern Ontario (NEOR) "B" level meets.
Level 5: In this beginning level of our competitive swim program swimmers will be working on technical development of their strokes. Swimmers have the option to compete at developmental meets.
Roos: This fun, pre-competitive program is ideal for young swimmers who want to learn one or more of the 4 competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly), to turn and to dive. This program runs over three ten-week sessions over the season.
SSMAC-Fit: This is a recreational program that provides swimmers with an opportunity to participate in a regular physical fitness program. Proficiency with at least one competitive stroke is required, preferable all four. This program runs over three ten-week sessions over the season.
